How to Access Remote Applications - PowerCampus, PowerFAIDS using Remote Desktop Web Access

Prerequisites for accessing applications from off campus

Connecting to Remote Desktop Web Access

Once either prerequisite is met, the process is the same.  Example scenario shown is from Windows 10 using Chrome.

Open a web browser and go to http://remoteapps.samuelmerritt.edu/RDWeb

Your web browser will redirect you the work resources page:

Your Domain\User name may already be pre-populated on domain joined machines.

Check to see that your username is in the correct format.  Enter your password and click sign in:

 

 

 

Select Available Application and click to launch:

 

Launching the application creates a custom RDP shortcut to the application on your computer

Note the location is the default downloads folder:

A new shortcut will be created each time you launch the web app.

Click the downloads link directly from the browser as shown above or browse to your downloads folder to click the .rdp file.

This looks just like the application installed on your local computer.  However, there is a significant difference.

You are operating the application completely within the data center.  other than the browser this is the only component operating on your computer.

This is an alternate method of access designed to address cpu intensive activities generated by the application where separating client and server by a slow link negatively impacts performance.

 

Exiting the Application and logging off

After closing the application it is a good idea to log of your RDS Web session by Sign out:

You can sign back in from the same page.  Alternatively, you can click the .rdp file shortcut from the downloads folder.
