For PC users
To add the printer, please locate the link below that correlates with your campus location.
\\oaksrvprn00 (Oakland)

\\fsopwfls000 (Fresno)
Click on the Search (magnifying glass) on the bottom left of your task bar and type in your location. (i.e \\oaksrvprn00) and press enter.
Locate the printer you want to connect to and double click on it.
Select ‘Open’ when prompted. This will auto install that printer.
For Mac users
*Please note to use IP address number here for step 4.
Install a Network Printer in Mac OS X
Note: Instructions are based on OS X 10.10. Minor differences exist for users of Mac OS X 10.7 – 10.11.
Printing Instructions
- Select System Preferences from the Apple menu.
- Click on Printers & Scanners (Print & Scan or Print & Fax).
- In the Printers & Scanners (Print & Scan) window, click on the plus sign button in the bottom right corner.
- Follow the rest of the instructions below from the newly opened Add window.
- Click on the IP tab on the top of the Add window.
- For Address, enter the IP address of the printer you want to add. IP addresses of SMU printers are available from the Service Desk (510-907-2555 option 1)
- Set Protocol to Line Printer Daemon – LPD.
- Leave the Queue field blank.
- The Name field is for your reference to keep track of your printers and differentiate between multiple ones.
- The Location field is optional.
- For Use, do not select Generic Postscript Printer. OS X will try to locate an appropriate driver but if it cannot then it’s recommended to download the correct driver from the manufacturer.
- Click Add. The printer will be added to your list of printers.
