SMU Student iPad Bundle User Agreement

SMU Student iPad Bundle User Agreement per Connect to Success Initiative

  1. Ownership and Completion of Program
The iPad Bundle, including the iPad, Apple Pencil, and a combination keyboard/case, will be provided to you as part of your program. The iPad Bundle will become your property upon successful completion of the program. (This may not apply to all programs. Please confirm with your Dept. Chair/Program Director). Until then, the iPad Bundle remains the property of SMU. If you leave the program before completion, you will need to return the iPad or be charged for it.

  2. Data Management and IT Access
    • IT Push Data: SMU's Information Technology (IT) department uses Jamf MDM (mobile device management) software to remotely manage and support the iPads. This allows us to push security, encryption, and necessary apps to the device. Please note that there are no restrictions on the iPad. The user will have full access and control of the device. We only have insight into the following data;
      • Device name
      • Serial number
      • Model name and number
      • Capacity and space available
      • OS version number
      • Installed apps
    • Privacy of Data: All personal data on the iPad is private. SMU and its IT department only have access to the data listed above.
    • Provided Apps: IT will provide the following apps through Jamf MDM:
      • Teams
      • Outlook
      • OneDrive
      • Students may Install additional apps using their Apple ID and downloading from Apple Store.
      • Apps you may consider downloading include but not limited to Canvas, MS Office 365, etc...
    • Graduation: Upon graduation, the Jamf MDM remote management of the iPads will be removed. Therefore, if you have any data on these apps that you would like to maintain, you will need to purchase the app and/or download your data and save it.

  3. Apple Care+ Plan
The iPads have a 2-year Apple Care+ plan. This plan extends service and support coverage to 2 years from the AppleCare+ purchase date and includes coverage for up to 2 incidents of accidental damage per year, each subject to a service fee of $29 for Apple Pencil or $49 for other damage, plus applicable sales tax. For complete terms and conditions, please visit Apple Support. Apple technical support contact information and hours of operation are listed in the Getting Started Guide, which can be downloaded from Apple Support. Apple support can be contacted directly for any iPad issues.

  4. Stolen or loss iPad and accessories: If your iPad is stolen or lost, please notify IT within 24 hours and provide an online police report. IT will be able to disable the device remotely, making it unusable until it is returned and reset. If your device is stolen, you may be issued a 'loaner' device.  If you lose the pencil or charger you will need to replace that item.  Please note that Apple Care + does not cover lost or stolen devices. IT has a limited stock available for emergency situations.

  5. Online Device Check-Out Agreement: A separate online device check-out agreement form from IT will be issued to each student on the day they receive their iPad. This covers use case agreement terms which will be associated with their uniquely assigned iPad.
